The recent decision by the U.S. to warn Ethiopia from sending its troops to Somalia, for the second time, is something worth praising. For a while now, i have been closely monitoring President Obama in regards to the East African debacle. The question in my head remained, “What makes this Obama guy different from his predecessor (Bush)?” [Espwcially, when it comes to Africa]
Though i supported Mr. Obama with all my might during his campaign for the U.S. presidency, I am still cautiously optimistic when it comes to him getting the work done. He has obviously inherited a chaotic world. (Thanks to Bush)
Therefore, I choose to reserve any judgment, and I try to give him a little bit of wiggle room. Unlike some Obama fans, I don’t expect him to be a rain-maker; and no, I don’t expect him to ace every challenge.
This much, however, i expected from him. I expected him to deliver on his inauguration message to dictators around the world, and how they no longer could rob and persecute their people. He promised an Obama administration would not accept that, and would never support any totalitarian regimes.
That was a clear message he could have opted to erase from his inauguration speech, but kept because (I Believe) he meant business.
So when I heard the recent news, where the senior US official for African policy Johnnie Carson had told Reuters news agency, “. . . such a move would be against the interests of both nations”, I was immensely proud of the Obama [administration]
Here is a man who clearly gets it. He gets the fact that wars don’t solve all issues, he gets that America’s image (and Ethiopia’s, for that matter) has been tainted in that region. And therefore it is time to frustrate all other options before we start the shoot-and-kill thing, again.
Premier Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, I’m sure, had received the memo telling him “to sober up”; that the ‘do-as-you-wish’ days are long gone.
I hate predictions, but my fear about the Somalia invasion by Ethiopian soldiers is coming true. I have said from the get-go that Ethiopia’s invasion will make things worse. And it did. We now have an enemy that is emboldened even more. Luckily for Meles threats against Ethiopia by the Islamists does not have to be fabricated anymore, because now it exists and now they mean business.
The so-called transitional government that Ethiopia has helped install is now begging for the outside world to save its government. As the Islamists are on the brink of taking over the nation once again, the Somalian government is urging Ethiopia to help out.
Ethiopia has now learned it can’t dip in others people’s affairs. And it probably couldn’t, because of Obama. I just hope that I am right.
Way to go Mr. Obama. You probably have saved the lives of millions.

Thank you Mr. President.
It is you and only YOU who will solve the problem of Ethiopia.
Thank you
The current postion of the United States of America Towards Ethiopia takes much of It’s conclustions both from mainstream internal affairs and views and postions from the diaspora.
The American administration should look to the great values of the experiance obtained in the formation of stable political structures in Post Derg Ethiopia as well as to the very importance of the rise of the professional class, small traders, project orientd associations, the culture of media and press, political parties and personalities.
Democrats should place great importance to established political culture In Africa in General and In Ethiopia in Particular with a basic grasp of the laws and rules of socio-economic evolution side by side to the corrective role of Nations with resources.
Both Ethiopia and The United States of America should come to a common understanding on Somalia. Objective trends in the history of the region demands that Ethiopia take the wisdom of watching peace keeping being performed by Multi-National forces of the African Union and Naval patrols by Nations with stakes in International commerce. The Administration of human settelment, food security, health and education in the region is also an objective target for International monetary wealth and It’s Just distribution.
Ethiopia should see to It’s best interest brief military confrontations that should be regulated to quick withdrawals to any movement that is located in any geographic expression. The American Administration should see to the best effect of Monetary reward in the service of regional peace.
